Working title: Filipino Culture Night for the Amateur Coordinator
Report Author: Jennifer Amos
Date: April 22, 2010

Subjects

Three people were involved. One of them was a friend of my friend that I met at Montezuma Hall. The second one was my friend. And the third one was a past FCN coordinator. I basically had someone who knew nothing about the FCN coordinator, someone who slightly knew and someone one was a past coordinator look at my website.

Think Aloud task

All the participants were asked to locate information and answer the following questions:

  1. Search for the definition of an FCN coordinator.
  2. Based on what you've gathered from the WHOLE web site, what have you learned about the FCN coordinator?
  3. Do you feel that this is a useful checklist for future coordinators?

After asking them these questions, I also asked everyone to review the site for navigation, ease of use, color scheme, logical positioning of information, and for any other reaction or comment they had.

Summary of Think Aloud

All of them were able to find the FCN coordinator definition under "about." After looking at everything on the website, they were able to give me their general interpretation of what a coordinator is. All of them said that the website has potential to helping future coordinators make their job easier. They feel that I listed practically everything that needs to be known about the position and that the information provided would help people who want to learn about the position very well. They thing that it was very smart of me to create this guide for a position that has been around for 25 years.

Most of them liked how it was easy to navigate through. But one of them complained that there was a lot to read. In addition, they are worried that a coordinator might get tired of the website when I finally complete it (since the site is still incomplete). One of them was confused over all the links on the right column.

Summary of Posttest

All users liked how the website looked like. But most of them said that the website had too much text and recommend that I add Flash or more images. They think that I should keep my messages short and simple. They also recommend that I add testimonials of past coordinators since I got in touch with many of them. That way, I will not sound preachy. One of them also asked that I add something about ticket reservations because that's usually a last-minute issue for a coordinator. Another one also asked if every coordinator has to follow this website

Findings to be implemented

  1. Learn more about Flash so I can add some animation to the site
  2. Add more images
  3. Condense writing
  4. Add testimonials from past coordinators (this is something that would take forever to do, so it's not something I will accomplish right away)
  5. Add ticket reservations under hospitality
  6. Reassure coordinators that they can be as creative as they want with their position and to only use this website as a guide if they need it

Findings that will not be implemented

I won't take the long list on the right column out because I want to display all the things that a coordinator needs to get done. I numbered them for a reason, so the coordinator can "countdown" his or her efforts. This site is supposed to be an online reference book for the FCN coordinator. It's not something that he or she has to read all at once, but something that he or she should refer too several times during his or her term.
